Cable Angle Plugs for Synthetically Insulated Medium Voltage Cables.

In recent years the use of new insulation technologies has reduced the size of operating equipment in the medium voltage sector, for example switching gear. This development is especially evident in the field of cable connections. The dimensions of cable connections were previously determined by the magnitude of the sparking gaps and by the leakage distances. Today, the modern, fully insulated construction allows cable connections to be arranged in confined spaces. Cable connections designed as angle plugs are especially easy to assemble. The authors describe the properties, function and testing of a new angle plug and its components. The metal cladding of the connection extends the screening effect to the cable and to adjacent parts. This gives the maximum in operating safety under all environmental conditions, provides protection against contact and light arcing as well as giving easy accessibility to the equipment.
