摘要
In a study of the head end of a steel K3 kp ingot plugged with molten aluminum it is established that the zone of dense defect-free metal (the ″bridge″ ) has a columnar structure different from the structure of the underlying metal. The thickness of this zone is 95-100 mm. The aluminum content along the zone thickness varies from 4% at the surface of the ingot to 0. 01% at the boundary of the defect-free zone. The carbon content in the ″bridge″ metal exceeds the content in the body of the ingot by 0. 015%. It is concluded that the enhanced carbon content in the ″bridge″ metal can serve as an additional confirmation of the reduction of gaseous carbon monoxide by aluminum in the head end of the ingot.
