Some problems of design of large steam turbines that have not yet found their final solution are considered from the point of view of Kharkov Turbine Plant (KhTZ), taking into account its experience and perspectives. At the present time, KhTZ designs and manufactures a great number of types and sizes of steam power turbines. KhTZ turbines meet the basic needs of Soviet nuclear power plants and are exported to Bulgaria, GDR, Hungary, and Finland. Problems connected with the use of saturated steam at nuclear power plants, increase of the unit capacity of nuclear power plant blocks, reliability and efficiency of turbines are discussed.
