This article deals with a particular type of reinforced bituminous structure for hydraulic facings. After a short description of this structure, its characteristics and of some examples of application on dam faces of ENEL, the article presents a testing method for checking the structure behavior under high heads, which could take place in large dams. Tests have been made on large diameter circular specimens at the Laboratory of the Research Center on Hydraulics and Structures of the Research and Development Department ENEL in Milan. Some encouraging results have been obtained.
