The technology of handling copper sulphate solutions is becoming more important with today's increases in hydrometallurgical processing. The authors discuss the crystallization of CuSO//4 from solution - the key step in the production of copper compounds. The growth of minus 30-mesh to plus 60-mesh copper pentahydrate crystals is relatively simple in a mildly agitated, single-stage continuous crystallizer. Elevated temperature with low sulphuric acid levels seems to be the most acceptable operating point for growing large crystals.
