THROATED SECTIONS IN CONCRETE COLUMNS.

An investigation into the behavior of an unreinforced throated section of different proportions in an axially loaded concrete column. The analysis is used to show how the throat stress at failure develops, and to explain the mode of failure of the throat. The results of the theoretical work are compared with the experimental results. The results of the investigation show that the introduction of an unreinforced throated section in an axially loaded concrete column reduces its load-carrying capacity.
