Interest in cathodically applied paints is on the increase because of its inherent advantages. Among these advantages are: no dissolution of the substrate; high resistance to salt spray; good resistance to detergents. Among the disadvantages: limited choice of raw material; expensive material of construction for anode and tank support equipment such as piping, pumps due to the low pH of the bath. The paper presents some performance data and comments resulting from evaluations of several cationic electrocoats over several pretreatments.
