Measurements of the temperature and hydraulic conditions in the circulation zone of the chamber of a coke dry quenching unit (CDQU) are necessary to optimize the air blast conditions along the cross section and height. Previously we made measurements of temperature in one of the CDQU of the Krivoi Rog Byproduct Coke Plant belonging to the first generation in terms of design and equipment. However, measurements on units of more modern design are of interest. To measure all the parameters we designed a special probe. The measurements were made at three levels on the waste-heat boiler side. Experimental results indicate that dry quenching in modern units has considerable margins for improvement. With the proper distribution of the quenching gas along the cross section of the chamber an increase in unit output can be obtained with a simultaneous reduction in capital costs for their construction and a reduction in operational costs.
