Robust control techniques are applied to civil engineering structures subjected to earthquake excitation. Full-state feedback and observer-based control laws are used to reduce the response of the building due to earthquake ground motion. Effects of actuator dynamics and a method to incorporate these dynamics into the overall design are also presented. The effectiveness of the control method is demonstrated by simulation results.
