Drilling tests were conducted at the De Beers Diamond Research Laboratory to evaluate the effects of diamond size and concentration on the performance of impregnated coring bits drilling into reinforced concrete. To ensure that the results had practical relevance, the tests were performed using both low and high powered drilling machines, as a result of which the advantages of high power were clearly demonstrated. Economic aspects of the drilling operation are included.
