Hot Rolled Plate and Strip for the Manufacture of Commercial Vehicles.

The wear behaviour of the cold formable steels discussed here was tested by means of shot peening, the abrasive paper method and wear pot method. It was found that the cold formable steels behave excellently in respect of this important service property. In particular, there is no visible difference in comparison with unalloyed high-carbon steels of equal hardness. The field of use for normalized, thermomechanically rolled and quenched and tempered fine-grained steels covers a broad range of components including complicated shapes, such as offset cross members, from axle beams and complete vehicle frames. For the building of mobile cranes and tank wagons and for other particularly critical applications preference is given to quenched and tempered steels.
