Likely to be a strong candidate for repowers and other marine applications, the new 3600 series from Caterpillar takes the power output range covered by Caterpillar engines right up to 6,000 hp. The turbocharged and aftercooled, four stroke 3600 series features a bore of 280 mm and stroke of 300 mm. Compression ratio is 13:1. Fuel efficiency design, and maintainability are discussed in this article.
