摘要
A study of stresses induced in long, intermediate and short shells due to unsymmetrical wind pressure on their surface. The stresses are compared with the stresses usually adopted for design, and it is shown that for the distribution of wind pressure specified for loading on roofs in the Indian Standard Code of Practice for Structural Safety of Buildings, the currently used assumption of equivalent uniform vertical load is inadequate. It is shown that in some cases the stresses induced due to self-weight of the roof are more than those induced when the roof carries an applied uniform load besides its own weight.
