SELF-DIFFUSION MECHANISM OF CARBON IN CERTAIN CARBIDES OF TRANSITION METALS.

Various mechanisms of carbon diffusion in carbides of the IV-V groups are suggested here. For carbides ZrC//y and NbC//y the authors determine the possibility of carbon migrating between octahedral sites and across a saddle point (thermal vacancy in metallic sublattice).
