Optical power meters measure both absolute and relative optical power. Standards play an important role in guaranteeing the precision of optical power meter measurement. This article will first examine the current status of optical power meter standards and corporation-wide standards in Japan. Next, it will explain calibration systems using optical calorimeters and the difference between beam and fiber-calibration systems. A detailed explanation will be given of the calibration technology used in fiber calibration.
