摘要
Problems in reducing pollutants from exhaust gases can be solved by improving the engines, by using filters, thermal or catalytic reactors and by improving the fuels. Possible improvements for gasolines concerns the lead content, development of new antiknock additives; for diesel fuels, the distillation and, the content of aromatic and sulfur compounds must be reduced, additives to prevent soot formation must be used and the combustion temperature should be lowered. Perspectives are shortly reviewed. Combustion cells seem to present an ideal solution to the environment problems, but their use is still remote.
