A new internal-reflection-interference (IRI) V-channel substrate inner stripe (VSIS) laser has been developed for the visible wavelength region. this paper reports theoretical calculations of the effective reflective index and the emission spectrum of IRI lasers. Stable single-longitudinal-mode operation and remarkable noise suppression in the IRI-VSIS lasers are also demonstrated. No mode hopping is observed under the conditions of (1) output power between 1mW and 9. 5mW, (2) 12 degree C of the wavelength locking range, for the laser with evident longitudinal mode selectivity. Feedback-induced noise is also suppressed to less than 100dB of S/N for optical feedback below 15% at 1MHz with a 10kHz bandwidth.
