When exposing carbon steel (St3sp, 10sp) and low-manganese and low-silicon steel (35GS, 25G2S) to mixtures of lime and fluorite, more than 40-50% sulfur can be removed from metal. With the sulfur content above 0.025% the desulfurizing extent increases with decreasing the FeO content of slag, higher aluminium concentration (as much as 0.012-0.014%) of metal as well as with argon blowing in a basic-lined ladle. It is sound practice to give no way for ingress of converter slag to the ladle.
