The origin of diamonds in metamorphic rocks of the Kumdykol' deposit, northern Kazakhstan, has recently been the subject of various studies. One such study is reported in the article. The study was conducted to clarify compositional differences between minerals containing diamonds, constituting diamond-bearing rock but lack diamond inclusions, constituting diamond-free rock within the ore zone, and constituting diamond-free rock outside the ore zone. Results of the study indicate that diamonds can occur in association with garnets of widely different compositions.
