Wean United has developed a computer study model that provides information to aid in the selection of a crown control system for any given application. It permits studies of the effects on strip crown of work roll bending, back-up roll bending, roll crossing, flexible edge rolls, variable crown rolls, transverse roll shifting, thermal crown control, and the use of five-high or six-high mill stands. The MillMax computer modelling system can compare potential energy savings by installing a coilbox adding thermal shielding between the rougher and the finishing train, or putting in a tunnel furnace.
