Study of the process of crystallization and melting of PP granules reveals the significant role of the prehistory of the samples and provides a fresh example of the 'memory effect' in the form of double crystallization. The influence of the mechanical prehistory is linked with the formation of linear nuclei with partial stability in the melt. After elimination of the mechanical prehistory the quantitative characteristics of isothermal and non-isothermal crystallization match. The influence of the conditions of crystallization on the character of melting is studied for samples with an identical thermal prehistory. The samples with a non-equilibrium structure give two melting peaks as a result of recrystallization occurring during melting.
