Energy criteria of small cycle failure due to soft and rigid loading are proposed. They are described by parameters of static and cyclic deformation. The constant in the Coffin equation is explained and the proposed criteria are experimentally checked on a great number of materials and under different loading conditions (a wide range of temperatures and cycle asymmetry coefficients). The existence of single curves of soft and rigid loading in the case of representation of the results in relative strain and force units is shown.
