Dynamic evaluation of the error level in the data link of a packet-switching computer network

A model of half-duplex data link is described which operates in a normal mode. in view of the unsteady pattern of the error level, polynomial estimates are constructed of the probability of frame distortion and their properties are investigated. A criterion is suggested and a relation is formulated for evaluation of the optimal observation interval. An analytical study is made of the efficiency of this adaptive procedure. The results are illustrated graphically and interpreted in qualitative terms.
