Controllability of Flue-Gas-Side Fouling of Heating Surfaces in Brown Coal Combustion Chambers.

Examples are cited which illustrate how the fouling of the heating surfaces is controlled by the composition of the incombustible part of the fuel and by the operating parameters. It is shown, in particular, that coals with high alkali, sulfur, and/or silicon content tend to cause heavy formation of deposits in the combustion chamber. The fouling tendency can be controlled by varying the excess air coefficient and the mixture of fuel and combustion air which is influenced by the burners.
