Fracture toughness of grain oriented (GO) silicon steel is evaluated by the method documented in JIS C-2550. In this test, a specimen is repeatedly bent, then the number of cycles to fracture is taken as an index of toughness. GO silicon steel consists of highly oriented grains which form the Goss texture. It is anticipated that the fracture mode depends on the direction of load and the longitudinal axis of specimens. In this report, cleavage fracture of GO silicon steel was studied to find the effects of experimental testing conditions.
