Catalytic oxidation of carbon matters by NO is studied. Alkali, alkaline earth and transition metal compounds are effective catalysts for carbon oxidation by NO with decrease of oxidation beginning temperature by 200-250°C. Oxygen addition to NO (2-3 vol.%) causes nonadditive increase of carbon oxidation rate. Water vapor addition to NO does not effect essentially on the rate of NO interaction with carbon. Mechanochemical activation of carbon matter causes considerable increase of oxidation rate and decrease of carbon oxidation beginning temperature.
