A method is proposed for calculating the pulse response of multimode fiber lightguides in which the refractive index profile changes slowly along the fiber length. Preliminary estimates confirm the fact that within the framework of the adiabatic model it is possible to explain a number of special features of the preceding measurements of the pulse response in actual optical fibers.
