Atomic ordering processes in microcrystalline ternary Ni3Mn base alloys

Neutron diffraction study of atomic ordering in ternary systems of Ni3Mn-Ni3Al, Ni3Mn-Ni3Si and Ni3Mn-Ni3Ti was carried out. In microcrystalline alloys produced by melt spinning a short range order was revealed. An increase of alloying element concentration resulted in the development of long-range order of L12 type. Ordered intermetallic phases of Ni5Si and Ni3Ti were found to form in the Ni3Mn-Ni3Si and Ni3Mn-Ni3Ti systems at Si and Ti contents exceeding 10%. In the Ni3Mn-Ni3Al system, the isomorphous transition from Ni3Mn superlattice to Ni3Al intermetallic compound was revealed.
