The Mobil Oil Corp. demonstrated process improvements in the areas of vacuum distillation, solvent refining, lube hydrocracking, and catalytic dewaxing. Mobil implemented deep-cut vacuum distillation at four lube refineries to achieve maximum vacuum gas oil yield and quality and at nine fuel refineries for cleaner preparation of cracking feedstock. The company also developed improvements to extraction columns, alternative solvents, and hybrid processing. Mobil joined W.R Grace to commercialized a membrane separation system to recover cold solvent from dewaxed-oil filtrate. Mobil implements hydrocracking which is more advantageous than solvent refining in terms of lube yield, feedstock flexibility and quality of base oils.
