Chemical, metallographic, X-ray phase, and micro X-ray spectral analyses of alloys of titanium carbide and boron have established that alloys of titanium carbide with 0. 1 to 0. 7 wt% boron are two-phase alloys. The second phase, TiB//2, depending on its concentration in the alloy, is located in the basic matrix in the form of acicular or whisker inclusions. A determination of the microhardness, the abrasive power, and the compressive strength showed that when titanium carbide is doped with boron hardening of the alloy occurs, as a result of which the mechanical properties of the alloy exceed those of undoped titanium carbide.
