RESISTANCE OF SOME DOLOMITE REFRACTORIES TO SLAG ATTACK.

The reistance of previously prepared semistabilized dolomite, stable dolomite and stable dolomite-magnesite refractories to the action of Thomas slag was measured. The obtained results were correlated with that of magnesite refractories. The results obtained were compared with the inherent chemical and physical properties of the investigated briquettes. The chemical reactivity of refractory-slag mixtures was related to the MgO content of the test dolomite refractories. The area attacked on the surface of the test briquettes was increased rapidly by the increase of the SiO//2 that dolomite briquettes contain. The infiltration of the slag into the briquettes was governed mainly by the apparent porosity of the underlying briquettes.
