Bright lights, big displays: blue LEDs and blue lasers to enable new display possibilities

LEDs are moving full force into the world of flat-panel displays, and while the initial commercialization for more exotic apps such as wall-size displays have mostly been in Japan at this point, they are finding their way to the U.S. very quickly in quieter apps such as backlights and miniature displays. And with recent developments in blue lasers, their incorporation into projection displays seems very promising if issues of complexity and cost can be overcome.
