摘要
The development of modern helicopter transmissions with improved load carrying capacity and better dry running properties requires an optimization of the rolling contact fatigue and the tooth root strength of conventional gears. Case hardening steels with a newly developed technique combining case-hardening and nitriding as well as new surface engineering techniques, like WC/C-coating or superfinishing, are promising processes for optimizing these properties. This paper describes the test procedures and the results obtained whilst investigating the new techniques within the scope of the European research project `ASETT'. Starting with an optimization of the individual techniques, several combinations were investigated by undertaking both coupon and gear tests. Opportunities and limitations of these advanced techniques with reference to enhancing gear properties are discussed.
