Most computer-based business systems do not attempt to assist key executives in performing their duties. Instead, they focus on making operational personnel more effective. It is for this purpose that an executive information system (EIS) was developed for users at the upper management level. Whether in the office or on the road, the EIS-equipped executive can track trends, sample detailed data, and receive warnings if preset alarm levels are violated. Current EISs provide online exception tracking to alert executives when conditions swerve outside specific parameters. Executives can then drill down for increasingly detailed views of data by day, week, month, or year.
