Water-splitting processes, not based on fossil fuels, can supply large quantities of hydrogen at a commercially viable price, particularly if the production system produces not only hydrogen but also coproducts. A flow sheet is depicted for an LH//2 (and oxygen) production scheme based on solar energy and a sea ″macro-system.″ The many products of such a system would help bring hydrogen cost down as well as assure an adequate supply.
