Memory systems based on charge-coupled devices will have many potential applications wihin the next few years, ranging from refresh memories for video displays through data storage for point-of-sale terminals all the way to replacements for magnetic disc and drum storage systems. Their importance is based on their price and performance, reliability and maintainability, power dissipation, size, and weight.
