X-ray microstructural analysis and metallography were used to study the diffusion interaction of chromium carbide Cr//3C//2 with iron and steel with 0. 1-0. 5% C at temperature 1200 degree C. The phase composition and microstructure of the diffusion zone were studied after annealing. Concentration distributions of the elements in the diffusion zone were obtained and the mutual diffusion coefficients in the existing phases were determined. The influence of carbon content on the kinetics of the diffusion interaction is analysed.
