摘要
This investigation was an attempt to establish a methodology of measuring dynamic material parameters through machining tests. An analysis of an orthogonal metal machining process is made which enables the dynamic shear stress to be obtained over a wide range of shear strains, strain rates, and cutting conditions (rake angle, cutting speed, and feed rate). The average shear strain rate in the primary shear zone is found to vary with the cutting speed and feed rate reaching values up to 10 5/s. It was shown that the average shear stress remains constant, independent of the cutting conditions. A conclusion is then drawn that machining tests can be successfully applied to determine the dynamic flow stress of metals.
