In connection with the use of sheet glass for the building of bearing shells intended for operation under external pressure, it is interesting to evaluate the effectiveness of the strengthening of composite sheet-glass components subjected to uniaxial and biaxial compression. The solution of this problem was the objective of this study. Data obtained suggest the applicability of strengthening by the method of low temperature ion exchange; this makes it possible to increase significantly the bearing capacity of the structural components formed from sheet glass with glued joints, which operate in compression.
