Government legislation that sets minimum performance limits on equipment that uses fans and blowers has put pressure upon the industry to create more efficient air movers. As a result, changes are already being made in the ways some fans are designed to achieve greater efficiency and energy savings. Recent developments in the fan design and standards are highlighted, and characteristics of the common types of electric motors that drive fans and blowers are compared.
