Practical experience has shown that vitrified bond CBN is best for grinding low-alloy steels in high-quantity production processes. A suitable bond is essential for successful application of vitrified-bond CBN wheels. Whereas resin bond wheels and metal bond wheels are extremely compact and have little or no pore volume, vitrified-bond wheels are manufactured with accurately controlled porosity. There are special techniques to maximize the material removal rates (MRR) for internal grinding using vitrified CBN. These are self sharpening by grinding and touch dressing CBN (TDC).
