Experiments are reported demonstrating spin inversion in a CaF//2:U**3** plus crystal as a result of unpolarized (circular-isotropic) optical pumping in a magnetic field corresponding to a cross-relaxation resonance. A model of the process is presented, and estimates are obtained of the degree of the resultant spin inversion.
