A multi-color molding process said to offer substantial capital and operating cost advantages over current practice is being made available by Billion. The French molding machine builder has bought a license from commercial vehicle lens specialist Cartier Industries to offer package deal technology for, apart from rear light lenses, any molding in which multiple colors or material types may be combined in a single cycle. The process is a patented extension of an established practice using a sliding core to shut off part of the cavity to one material and creating another cavity for subsequent materials. The significant difference is that instead of using the core as one wall of the cavity, working against the other fixed cavity half, the Cartier system has a split core containing a complete cavity.
