A medical terminal for a remote diagnostic system which relies on telephone transmission of electrophysiological signals is described, along with the structure of a network with digital data transmission by a switchable telephone line. Some of the capabilities the terminal allows for: input of electrophysiological and clinical data into the microcomputer through a universal port that accepts any medical instrument, synchronous sampling by 24 channels, conversion of the data into digital format and recording on floppy disk, and creation of a local and centralized data bank. Because of the noise in real communication lines, the medical terminal uses the BCH error correcting code.
