UTILITY EXPERIENCE IN THE SOUTHWEST.

Since the early 70s, a good many single-shaft, industrial type combustion-turbine generators have been put into peaking service in the Southwest. Several years of experience have pointed out operating problems in the cyclic operation of combustion turbines so characteristic of utility peaking service. Maintenance costs have been higher than expected. Users, manufacturers, and utility-industry groups have joined together in a concerted effort to solve these problems.
