To maintain international competitiveness in the field of industrial plant design great efforts must be made to cut down costs in the engineering sector. A study of this problem on the basis of the value analysis resulted in completely new production methods and tools. The most important are structured design, a resulting standard flow of information controlled by project and handling rules (PAR) and the consistent introduction of a CAE system as production tool tailored to the needs of industrial plant design.
