This paper describes laser diode (LD) module design and performance for analog video transmission. To meet subscriber system requirements, it is necessary to make the LD module economical and reliable. The coupling circuit design has been examined, taking into account coupling loss, tolerable alignment errors, and LD noise/distortion increase due to reflecting from coupling elements. Metal seal techniques, including electric welder and soldering by induced heater, have been applied to the module fabrication. A compact metal-sealed LD module, with easy fabrication and good analog modulation characteristics has been developed.
