Simpson (see Engineering Index 1971 p 3710 abstract 71875) has analyzed the monopole above ground, driven at its base and loaded at its top by a symmetric configuration of wires. The present paper presents the development of Hallen-type integral equations for a similar structure but allows the slight additional complexity that the antenna may be driven at any point along its vertical member or, if desired, at points on the top-loading wires (excitation on top-loading wires must be equal and located at the same radial displacement from the monopole axis). With excitation at a point on the vertical member, the antenna may be appropriately designated a sleeve-driven, top-loaded monopole, and it is hoped that such a structure will exhibit enhanced bandwidth characteristics as is found in a comparison of the sleeve-driven to the base-driven monopole (unloaded).
