Interface between an iron electrode and solutions in tetramethylurea

Impedance and potentiostatic measurements were made at an electrode with renewed surface in solutions of the aprotic solvent tetramethylurea. It was found that Fe in LiClO4 solutions in this solvent can be regarded as an ideally polarizable electrode over an extremely wide range of potentials. The potential of zero charge of iron was determined , surface charge densities of the metal were calculated as functions of potential, and it was shown that alkali metal and ClO4 ions are not specifically adsorbable in the systems discussed. The comparison of data with mercury electrode suggested that the interaction of tetramethylurea molecules with Fe is chemisorptive in character
