A report is given concerning the experience acquired with the use of turbo-driven heavy-duty feedwater pumps for conventional power plants in the range from 450 to 740 MW. The report includes an analysis of the effects on the availability and wear behavior of important pump components. The data were collected over a 10-year period. The pumps in question are four- and five-stage feed pumps of dish construction with drive powers of up to 29,000 kw. Both floating-ring and sliding-ring seals were used as the shaft seals.
